Be In Harmony With Winter

To practice Qi Gong is to be mindful of living in harmony with the seasons and with the natural cycles of our environment. Winter is the ultimate Yin season. Like the deciduous trees that are now bare, we let go of things we don’t need. Why? In order to make way for new life to emerge in the spring.

We live in a society of continual striving and exertion; we want immediate solutions. Nature has another idea. Everything has its season.

In Chinese medicine, the winter is connected with the kidneys and the water element. Our bodies are about 60% water. The wisdom of water is to flow. We should learn how to move through our day like 💧. A key flow connected with the winter is The Fountain. Another good winter flow is The Wave. In addition, it is good to knock heels into the ground/floor to stimulate the bones.

Find stillness in your day. Start with one minute of quiet and build to three minutes, then five minutes, and so on. Have a foot bath, get a massage, read a good book, journal, meditate, do Qi Gong. Use your Qi wisely. Do activities that align with your ❤️.

You can bring your own unique contribution and creativity to the 🌎, but to do so you have to first be still. Listen to what is yours to do and learn how to share a loving presence from your inner place. Then “gather around the hearth” with people who mean the most to you.

Live according to the season and pay attention to your body’s preferences.

  • Sit still

  • Sleep longer

  • Drink teas

  • Eat soups

  • Keep it simple
